Susana Caldas Fonseca graduated as food engineer and attained her PhD in Biotechnology(food science and technology) from Catholic Portuguese University (Portugal) with collaboration of University of Florida, USA. Her doctoral thesis was on the mathematical modelling of modified atmosphere packaging for fresh-cut vegetables.

She is invited as Assistant Professor in Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto, Portugal where she taught graduate and undergraduate courses and supervised more than 12 master and doctoral thesis in food technology. She has authored more than 25 articles in international refereed indexed journals and 6 book chapters. Also, she maturated a strong experience as researcher in academic and industrial research projects. She has focused her research on exploration of new applications of modified atmosphere packaging and edible coatings in fresh-cut fruits and vegetables and smoked cured meat-based products.
